Homer Elementary School – a Greek/German School
The Homer Elementary School is special because pupils are taught by both Greek
and German teachers. Ancient Greek is part of the curriculum, alongside other,
traditional subjects. This intercultural technique is an optimal way to bridge
the culture gap and allow for intercultural understanding and tolerance.
The Homer Elementary School is located on a historic preservation site called
the Ludwig Hoffmann building, Pasteurstrasse 10-12 in Prenzlauer Berg. The outside
grounds hold no historic significance, and only two old trees remain from the
original outdoor design. The main building is closed on three sides and opens
to a courtyard. On the opposite side of the courtyard there is a gymnasium, and
living quarters close the remaining open space.
